Collaborations are nothing new for Virgil Abloh founder of high-fashion luxury menswear brand Off-White, but few have ignited as much interest as those with IKEA and Nike. In 2017, his collaborative project with Nike entitled The Ten saw him reinvent ten classic silhouettes of the iconic shoemaker. Abloh also recently launched a collection with IKEA that produced merchandise including rugs with his signature quoted slogans, the sneaker cabinet, and a wooden chair reinvented with a red, shining door-stop known as the Door Stop Interruption. Additional Off-White partners include the likes of Levi, Jimmy Choo and Moncler to name but a few.
Abloh referred to one of the main aesthetic components of the Off-White for men collection as “everything in quotations'” at a lecture at Columbia University in 2017. The elements of men's Off-White exhibit this principle which applies social commentary and common ideas and interprets them in provocative ways on the brands slogan sweatshirts, t-shirts and wider collection.
