Brand Spotlight: Alexander McQueen
Brother2Brother is a proud retailer of Alexander McQueen clothing, footwear and accessories. Known for their extravagant runways and unapologetic style, the brand has grown exponentially since it’s first menswear collection was released in 2005.
Lee Alexander McQueen launched his fashion house in 1992 and went on to be awarded “British Designer of the Year” four times in less than a decade.
During his rise to prominence in the fashion world, he earned a reputation for creating impeccably tailored pieces. His 1992 MA graduation collection at Central Saint Martins College in London caught the attention of Isabella Blow, a highly influential stylist. After purchasing his entire collection, she became a great advocate for McQueen’s work and elevated his name in the industry.
Soon after, he designed the wardrobe for David Bowie’s 1996 tour and subsequent album release, as well as Björk’s 1997 “Homogenic” album cover. By 1996, McQueen acted as chief designer at Givenchy whilst developing his own label. In total, he released an impressive 36 collections for Alexander McQueen, featuring controversial and forward-thinking designs of the highest standard.
Jump to 2005 and we see the release of his first menswear line. The new collections were featured annually during Milan Fashion Week, joined by his women’s pre-Spring collection from 2008.
McQ is the lower-priced diffusion line of Alexander McQueen. Launched in 2006, the brand aimed to access a new demographic, offering exclusive Lee Alexander McQueen designs as ready-to-wear. This proved to be a smart move by the fashion house as retailers saw sales rise. In 2012, McQ hit London Fashion Week and opened a four-storey Georgian townhouse boutique.
Brother2Brother stocks the McQ Swallow collection.
